About the Show

Please join us before the show for an opening reception in our Paradiso bar to learn about how Oppenheimer connects to Entangled Beauty. Reception begins at 5:30 PM and will end at the beginning of the film.

As part of Entangled Beauty, the Athenaeum Center will present a special screening of Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed film Oppenheimer. This sweeping biographical drama tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the brilliant physicist who led the Manhattan Project during World War II, ultimately ushering humanity into the nuclear age. Through its meticulous storytelling and striking visuals, the film examines the profound moral and philosophical questions that arise when scientific breakthroughs hold both the power to save and the potential to destroy.

Positioned within our quantum science series, Oppenheimer serves as a compelling cultural lens through which to consider the responsibilities of scientists, the weight of discovery, and the unintended consequences of technological advancement. The screening will provide an opportunity for audiences to reflect not only on the life of Oppenheimer himself, but also on how quantum theory and nuclear physics reshaped global history. Following the film, attendees will be invited to join an informal conversation about its themes and their relevance to today’s rapidly evolving scientific landscape.

The inclusion of Oppenheimer in Entangled Beauty underscores the series’ commitment to exploring how science intersects with human values, ethics, and culture. The film’s portrayal of the tension between innovation and responsibility resonates deeply with the broader conversations taking place throughout the day, from panel discussions on quantum theory to artistic interpretations of the unseen world. By situating this powerful cinematic work within a program that celebrates both scientific achievement and philosophical inquiry, the Athenaeum Center invites audiences to engage not only with the history of physics but also with the enduring questions that continue to shape our shared future.

Conference ticket holders receive access to this screening of Oppenheimer, as well as entry to previews of Athenaeum Center Theatre’s Constellations, by Nick Payne in addition to the conference presentations in the Paradiso. Screening-only tickets are also available for purchase.

Dante 360

Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost.”

And so we all begin—in darkness.

Join Dante on his most famous journey through the depths of hell, levels upon levels of purgatory, finally discovering the light and glory of paradise. You will find terror in the wild beasts he meets along the way; and only moments later great hope at the strong woman, Beatrice, who leads him always upwards.

This contemporary staged performances of one of the most epic stories of the western world is an immersive, multi-dimensional production that leads you into Dantes universe. Returning to the stage for the 4th year, this year’s production.

Its heaven. It’s hell. But above all, it’s worth the trip.
