About the Show

Deepen your appreciation of Dante’s masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, with art historian, Dr. Elizabeth Lev – professor, author, consultant for the Vatican Museums and Ted Talk presenter. Her lecture unveils the profound encounter between Dante and Beatrice that stands at the heart of his journey. The discussion will highlight their relationship and its central role in shaping Dante’s vision.

Enjoy live, original dance choreography created by Gwenyth Dixon and assistant choreographer Patricia Seoh with a score composed by J.J.M. Garvey commissioned for and premiered at the Dante Celebration at Fairfield University (1965). The performance, capturing the encounter of Dante and Beatrice, will be brought to life by dancers Elizabeth Ryznar and Ervin Vallecillo (Virginia National Ballet).

In addition to the performance, watercolors by Salvador Dali representing Dante and Beatrice will be on display from a private collection, available exclusively for this event.

The event will conclude with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet and converse with the dancers, choreographers and Liz Lev in a relaxed, social setting with music performed by Chicago guitarist Neal Alger.

Cocktail attire recommended.

Dante 360

Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost.”

And so we all begin—in darkness.

Join Dante on his most famous journey through the depths of hell, levels upon levels of purgatory, finally discovering the light and glory of paradise. You will find terror in the wild beasts he meets along the way; and only moments later great hope at the strong woman, Beatrice, who leads him always upwards.

This contemporary staged performances of one of the most epic stories of the western world is an immersive, multi-dimensional production that leads you into Dantes universe. Returning to the stage for the 4th year, this year’s production.

Its heaven. It’s hell. But above all, it’s worth the trip.
