About the Show

Twin Fiddles. Driving rhythm. Fun for the whole family.

Led by Ukrainian-American brothers Alex and Danylo Fedoryka, Scythian (pronounced “sith-ee-in”) plays roots music from Celtic, Eastern European, and Appalachian traditions with thunderous energy, technical prowess, and storytelling.

They bring various influences together to create a conglomerate which is technically precise and steeped in various folk traditions, beckoning crowds into a barn-dance, rock concert experience.

The classically-trained Fedorykas grew up on Ukrainian folk music and bluegrass, bassist Ethan Dean was raised on the greats of 60’s & 70’s folk-rock, and Louisiana-born drummer Johnny Rees brings a Cajun backbeat to the Celtic-Americana fusion—giving Scythian yet another dimension which keeps audiences entertained and moving. Through their music, they bring the spirit of roving Ukrainian fiddlers to their own audience; and make everyone stop for a moment and dance without a care!

We’re excited to have this powerhouse band kick off our 2023 season March 5th on the Historic Main Stage.

Join us to experience what The Washington Post said of Scythian: “[their] enthusiasm is contagious, and shows seem to end with everyone dancing, jumping around or hoisting glasses.”

Chicago’s own “The Great Whiskey Project” will open, and Trinity School of Irish Dance will make a special appearance.

The Bar at the Paradiso opens at 5—pick up a Guinness or one of the cocktails crafted by our talented bartenders to enjoy during the show!

VIP Tickets include:

  • 1 copy of Scythian’s It’s Not Too Late album
  • Artist Meet & Greet after the show
  • 1 Drink Ticket to be redeemed at the bar during the show

The Story Behind the Band

There once was a roving fiddler. He approached a small village, and before long, was spotted by a farmer. Soon, the entire town had stopped what they were doing, they left their work behind and gathered in the barn. The fiddler played, and the people danced and laughed.

The next day, the fiddler left and things returned to normal, but every now and then, the roving fiddler would appear again in the distance, and the people would spread the word that he was on his way. They left their work, gathering, dancing, and leaving their worries behind for just a moment.

A Scythian show is just that: a community gathering together, united by the joy, energy, and beauty of music. A chance to leave aside the cares of the world for an evening and be swept away by the power of beauty!
