About the Show

Join us as 3 Chicago Cultural Treasures (Cuerdas Clasicas, Sones de Mexico, and Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago) honor our Traditions by presenting a Musical Ofrenda. A night that will pay respects to our Cultural ancestry, through Music and Dance.

About Cuerdas Clasicas:
Cuerdas Clasicas performs a variety of musical works, both instrumental and vocal. Some are traditional Latin music, while others are classical works by composers such as Mozart, Vivaldi, Strauss, Johan Sebastian Bach, and Edward Grieg, all of which are characterized by pick instruments such as the mandolin, the bandurria, the lute, the bass, and of course, the classical guitar.

About Sones de México:
Sones de México Ensemble is Illinois’ premier Mexican folk music ensemble. The two-time Grammy-nominated sextet specializes in Mexican ‘son’, a family of diverse, regional music styles that date back to the 16th Century. With a large collection of over 80 folk musical instruments representative of Mexico’s diverse local cultures the group’s multi-instrumentalist musicians, vocalists and dancers perform a repertoire that is rich in colors, textures and rhythms. They often collaborate cross-culturally with classical, blues, Irish, Chinese and other musicians and dancers to promote a deeper appreciation of Mexico’s rich, but often little-known rural music traditions.

About Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago:

Dante 360

Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, for the straightforward pathway had been lost.”

And so we all begin—in darkness.

Join Dante on his most famous journey through the depths of hell, levels upon levels of purgatory, finally discovering the light and glory of paradise. You will find terror in the wild beasts he meets along the way; and only moments later great hope at the strong woman, Beatrice, who leads him always upwards.

This contemporary staged performances of one of the most epic stories of the western world is an immersive, multi-dimensional production that leads you into Dantes universe. Returning to the stage for the 4th year, this year’s production.

Its heaven. It’s hell. But above all, it’s worth the trip.
