The Hillbilly Thomists are an 8-piece traditional folk and bluegrass band made up of Dominican Friars. What began as as a casual creative outlet for these brothers from the Northeastern Division of the Order of Preachers soon grew into a surprise success when their eponymous debut album, consisting mostly of bluegrass and Americana favorites, reached #3 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
Since then, the friars have been busy contemplating, preaching, serving and writing music. The fruit of this labor is their latest album, Living for the Other Side. Recorded at the Alberthaus in the Catskills, it features mostly original songs. The album is a soulful and at times rollicking meditation on grace, suffering, faith, conversion, and the soul’s dogged desire for what really matters.
