Jessica Kick Dance presents

Read to Me

December 9, 2022- December 11, 2022

About the Show

A dance performance that explores literacy experiences and the effect they have on our relationship with reading in childhood and adulthood.

Jessica Kick graduated with a B.F.A in Dance from University of Missouri, Kansas City. Jessica has previously danced with Joel Hall, Matter Dance, The Monocle Eclectic, Core Project Chicago, Tiffany Lawson Dance, Lucid Banter Project, The Modern Marvels, Delve Dance Chicago and many independent choreographers in Chicago. She was accepted into Teach for America as an Early Childhood Education corps member, and received her Masters in Early Childhood in 2014.

This will be Jessica’s first full-length dance show, and is inspired by her favorite time of day: storytime with her two children. As an early childhood educator, she has always loved books. Her love for literature and reading has grown exponentially since becoming a parent. While researching for this project, Jessica conducted surveys and talked to many people about their literacy experiences. Many were excited and eager to share their own happy reading anecdotes, but she also encountered people that did not have positive reading experiences. Her hope is that she can honor these stories, whether they are fond or disappointing memories, in the most real and honest way possible.
