The National Museum of Mexican Art presents two “Chicago Cultural Treasures” award recipients: The Mexican Folkloric Dance Company of Chicago, and two-time GRAMMY® award nominee Sones de Mexico Ensemble in an evening of festive, ringing music and colorful, traditional dancing.
“El son” is the soul of Mexican music and dance. It has become a culture in of itself that constitutes the base of all folkloric expressions. Music, instruments, costuming, dance form and choreography, shaped by climate, topography, ethnic diversity, and influences from practically all over the world; have generated as many variations of “El Son” as there are towns in Mexico. Join us on this performance that marks the start of The Company’s 40th-anniversary celebration.
